FSC Congratulates Karen on becoming our President!

Karen Garrison CAP is FSC’s newly elected Chapter President for the 2009-2010 year that began on July 1. As her theme for this year depicts – “Growing to New Heights” – she strongly believes in continuing education, being active in Chapter activities, obtaining professional certification, and going outside your “comfort zone” for personal and professional growth.
“Growing to New Heights” is not something new to Karen – she lives it – as her professional involvement proves. She joined FSC in 2000 and earned her Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) designation in 2005. She has served on the International Board as Membership Chair and has been extremely active in the Chapter serving as past President, Treasurer, and Chairs to the Scholarship, Membership, and Education/Program Committees. This past May, FSC played host to the Annual Division Meeting. It was Karen, along with Debbie Turner CPS/CAP, who stepped up and volunteered as co-Coordinator. Their hard work and effort were rewarded by a weekend that was educational, informative, and fun.
Karen has 30 years of experience in the administrative field and has enjoyed a 20+ year career as an administrative professional with the State of Delaware. Currently, Karen works for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Division of Water Resources, as an Administrative Officer in the Director’s Office. Her responsibilities include division-wide committee chairs, division representative on department level committees, HR liaison, supervisory duties, and “other duties as assigned” (you know what that means.).
On the personal side, Karen and her husband, Curt, celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary this summer. Their oldest daughter Amber is a certified and licensed vet tech for the Sussex County SPCA and has a pet sitting business. She and her husband Sean live in Frederica. Their youngest daughter April is a 4th grade teacher at Lake Forest Central Elementary School. She and her husband Henry and their boys 3 ½ year old Gabe and 4 month old Jax live in Magnolia. Karen enjoys spending time with family and friends and get-a-way weekends at Bethany Beach.
Karen is looking forward to an exciting year for FSC. The chapter’s 30th Anniversary is July 29, 2009, and we plan to celebrate it in a big way when we resume chapter meetings after our summer break. Karen plans to continue with monthly meeting formats that feature a speaker with a presentation on topics affecting administrative professionals and cutting-edge information.
We fully expect Karen to move FSC to new heights this coming year!
