We Celebrated the Big “30″ on July 10, 2010!

July 8th, 2010

First State Chapter, IAAP, celebrated its 30th anniversary on July 10th at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover.  The Chapter officially was chartered on July 28, 1979, with 17 members.  Today, First State Chapter boasts 30 members, including two associate members.  First State Chapter is part of the Delaware-Maryland-District of Columbia Division that is comprised of 17 chapters.

Among those in attendance were four charter members:  Roylene Marvel CPS, Pat Palmisano CPS, Jo Rolison, and Dot Willis CPS.  Speaker for the event was Sandy Ratke CPS/CAP, Immediate Past President of the DE-MD-DC Division.  Attendees enjoyed “visiting the past while looking to the future” with scrapbooks, memorabilia, trivia, plenty of reminiscing, and entertainment by the First State Harmonettes.

Thanks to Roylene Marvel CPS who chaired the event.  A great time was had by all.  Click here to see more photos.

FSC ADDS ANOTHER CAP TO ITS RANKS!

July 1st, 2010
Kathy Kucek CPS/CAP

Kathy Kucek CPS/CAP

 Congratulations to Kathy Kucek, CPS/CAP.

FSC is pleased to announce that Kathy Kucek passed her CAP exam.  Kathy is an active member of FSC and served as Recording Secretary for 2009-10.

Kathy was first hired as a Foundation Assistant for Bayhealth Foundation in October 2001.  When she interviewed in June 2008 for her current position of Administrative Coordinator for Bayhealth Medical Center, she knew that a CPS or CAP designation was preferred (although not required).  During the interview, she pledged to seek the CPS designation.  Once selected for the position, Kathy immediately joined FSC and registered for the May 2009 CPS exam.

FSC continues to Grow to New Heights as evidenced by 10 of our members possessing either a CPS and/or CAP certification.  Again, we congratulate Kathy on her accomplishment.

Assistance for Dover, DE Apartment Fire Victims

June 17th, 2010

As you are aware, there was a serious apartment fire at the beginning of this month.  The YMCA was collecting items for those displaced during this tragic occurrence.  I was informed last week that a family that attends the same daycare as my son was one of the families affected in this fire.  They have three small daughters, 5, 4, and 2.  Having experienced this same traumatic experience many years ago with my family, I know what these people are dealing with.  To that end, I am requesting First State Chapter rally together to help this family.  They are still trying to find a home to live in, and rebuild their lives.  This will be a long process.  What they need right now is money.

Please send gift cards for various venues.  If you don’t have time to purchase a gift card, please contact me and I will take any funds collected and purchase the cards and record your contribution.  This will allow the family to purchase items as the need arises and keeps them from getting overwhelmed with “things” that they cannot currently store or accommodate while living in a motel room.  Some suggestions include;

American Express
Visa
Toys R Us
Target
Grocery Stores
Restaurants
Dover Mall
WalMart

Send all contributions to:

Renee’ Holt
Civic Project – Fire
529 E. Loockerman St.
Dover, DE 19901-3712

Depending upon the response and volume, extra funds and gift cards will be submitted to the YMCA in care of the other families affected.

Your care and assistance in this outreach effort is so greatly appreciated!

Quilts Needed for Veterans

March 18th, 2010
A representative of Americans Honoring Americans, a group working to make life a bit easier for our injured Vets in Walter Reed Hospital, contaced Jean.  AHA donates quilts and takes Vets on excursions; such as, a Nascar Race with a visit to pit row, and then prepare a DVD of the day for the Vets.  This is similar to the Make A Wish Foundation — the vets choose where they want to go.They have a good supply of lap quilts but need twin size quilts. Is anyone interested in making a twin size quilt?  Those who donate a quilt will be able to go with them to Walter Reed to deliver the quilts.

This is a great program and a very small way to repay those who have given so very much to preserve our freedom.

If interested, contact Jean at jeanbracken@verizon.net.
